The BOMA/GLA Awards of Excellence recognizes outstanding commercial real estate professionals who have demonstrated both exceptional standards and commitment to their work as well as dedication to advancing the industry.

Award Category Criteria:

Executive of the Year

This award is presented to a member of BOMA/GLA in recognition of outstanding contributions to the commercial real estate industry through quality building management and professional growth. Nominees must currently hold a title of Director, Asset Manager, Executive, Vice President, or similar status. They must manage commercial, retail, industrial, government, facilities, mixed-use or any combination thereof, in the Greater Los Angeles market. This award shall be bestowed on a nominee who is a current member in good standing.

Member of the Year

This award is presented to a Principal or Professional member of BOMA/GLA for distinguished service to the Association. Distinguished service is characterized by dedicated commitment to the Association's goals through active membership on committees, attendance at conferences, support of local, state or national advocacy efforts, acceptance of leadership roles, or other significant activities on behalf of the Association and its aims. This award shall be bestowed on a nominee who is a current member in good standing and has been active for five (5) or more years.

Property Manager of the Year

This award is presented to a member of BOMA/GLA in recognition of outstanding contributions to the commercial real estate industry through quality building management and professional growth. Nominees must currently manage commercial, retail, government, facilities, mixed-use or any combination thereof, in the Greater Los Angeles market. This award shall be bestowed on a nominee who is a current member in good standing. Nominees should demonstrate their efforts to promote BOMA/GLA by supporting the association and by attending and/or sponsoring functions. Nominees regularly include Associate Members in bid processes; have a reputation for honesty and integrity in contract negotiation and provide a high level of professionalism when working with clients, other BOMA/GLA members, and the commercial real estate community. Nominees must currently hold a title of General Manager, Senior Manager, Property Manager, or similar status.

Industrial Manager of the Year

This award is presented to an Industrial Member of BOMA/GLA in recognition of outstanding contributions to the commercial real estate industry through quality building management and professional growth. Nominees must currently manage industrial buildings in the Greater Los Angeles market.

This award shall be bestowed on a nominee who is a current member in good standing. Nominees should demonstrate their efforts to promote BOMA/GLA by supporting the association and by attending and/or sponsoring functions. Nominees regularly include Associate Members in bid processes; have a reputation for honesty and integrity in contract negotiation and provide a high level of professionalism when working with clients, other BOMA/GLA members, and the commercial real estate community.

Engineer of the Year

Professional Member of the Year

This award is presented to a Professional Member of BOMA/GLA who best exemplifies the highest qualities of leadership and has demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to the association and its membership. Nominees support the association through providing subject matter expertise, committee involvement, and by attending or sponsoring functions. The nominee is highly regarded in the industry and provides a high level of professionalism when dealing with clients, other BOMA/GLA members, and the commercial real estate community.

Associate Member of the Year

This award is presented to an Associate Member of BOMA/GLA who best exemplifies the highest qualities of leadership and has demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to the association and its membership. Nominees support the association through committee involvement, by attending or sponsoring functions and provide a high level of professionalism when dealing with clients, other BOMA/GLA members, and the commercial real estate community.

Emerging Professional Member of the Year

This award recognizes individuals who are pursuing excellence in their careers and have made a valuable contribution to BOMA/GLA by serving in a volunteer leadership position. Emerging professionals are defined by the association as younger members newer to the commercial real estate industry and their specific area of expertise. Nominees must be in the property management field and a member of BOMA/GLA. They must demonstrate initiative, excellent performance, dedication, and professionalism. The nominee is committed to development of their professional and leadership skills through involvement in BOMI Institute courses, BOMA workshops and webinars, or other professional training.

Advocate of the Year

This award is presented to a Principal, Professional, or Associate member of BOMA/GLA for grassroots advocacy on behalf of the association. Grassroots advocacy is characterized by dedicated commitment to the Association's advocacy goals through active membership on subject matter committees, support of local, state or national advocacy efforts, or other policy and political activities on behalf of the commercial real estate industry and its aims.

Contributions that are considered include a broad range of participation including, but not limited to, supporting the coordination of advocacy meetings, providing background expertise, raising issue awareness with fellow members and the public, or other activities that help the Association advance its advocacy goals.

This award shall be bestowed on a nominee who is a current member in good standing.

Barbara S. Harris Industry Achievement Award

The Barbara S. Harris Industry Achievement Award recognizes and promotes individuals who have made a significant contribution to BOMA/GLA and to the commercial real estate industry throughout the course of their career.

This award is named in honor of Barbara S. Harris, a former president and volunteer Chairman of the Board of BOMA Greater Los Angeles. Harris was an innovative commercial real estate professional who was responsible for the first use of the triple-net lease in the Murdock Plaza office building in Los Angeles. She was a Real Property Administrator who shared her expertise in lease escalation methods as a speaker and author. She began her decades-long career in Los Angeles as a property manager for H. C. Beck Co., Arthur Rubloff & Co. and Crocker National Bank, followed by eight years as vice president and COO of Murdock Management Co. in Westwood.

In addition to her service to BOMA/GLA, she was also actively involved in BOMA International, serving as chair of the 1983 BOMA International Convention in Los Angeles and served as a member of the BOMA International Finance Committee, the Building Review Service Council, and the National Advisory Council and Operating Methods Committee. She also designed and instituted educational courses for BOMA and won the BOMA International President’s Award in 1991. As a member of the advisory board for Commercial Real Estate Women, Los Angeles, she mentored many women in real estate and in 2005 was honored with the CREW-LA Renaissance Award.

Harris was a founder of the Ross Minority Program in Real Estate at the University of Southern California, an intensive, executive education and certification program in real estate development and finance that has graduated more than 400 students in its 13 years. She served as the program’s president and as a member of its Advisory Board.
