At BOMA Greater Los Angeles, we are committed to fostering a professional, ethical, and inclusive environment that supports the success of our members and the commercial real estate industry. Our policies and code of conduct ensure that members, leaders, and staff operate with integrity, fairness, and accountability.

 

Code of Conduct

BOMA/GLA members uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ethics in commercial real estate. As part of our community, members commit to:

  • Conducting business with honesty, transparency, and respect.
  • Competing fairly and avoiding anti-competitive practices.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and protecting sensitive information.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Promoting an inclusive, harassment-free environment for all members.

Violations of the Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, including termination of membership.

Membership Policies

BOMA/GLA membership is available to individuals and organizations that own, manage, or service commercial properties. Members must adhere to association guidelines, including:

  • Eligibility and Qualifications: Membership is categorized into Principal, Corporate, Professional, Associate, and Retired Members, each with specific requirements.
  • Dispute Resolution: Members are encouraged to resolve conflicts through mediation, with arbitration as a final step if necessary.
  • Rules of Order: All meetings and activities follow Robert’s Rules of Order to ensure fair and structured discussions.

Conflicts of Interest Policy

To maintain transparency and trust, BOMA/GLA requires members, board members, and staff to disclose any conflicts of interest that could impact decision-making. Members must:

  • Avoid using their position for personal gain.
  • Disclose any relationships that may create a conflict of interest.
  • Recuse themselves from discussions or votes where a conflict exists.

Whistleblower Policy

BOMA/GLA encourages members and staff to report any unethical behavior, illegal activity, or violations of association policies.

  • Protection from Retaliation: Those who report in good faith are safeguarded against retaliation.
  • Where to Report: Concerns can be reported confidentially to the Board Chair or Association President.

Harassment Policy

BOMA/GLA is committed to maintaining a respectful and inclusive environment. Harassment of any kind—including sexual harassment, discrimination, or bullying—will not be tolerated.

  • Zero Tolerance: Unwelcome conduct, whether verbal, physical, or online, is strictly prohibited.
  • Reporting and Investigation: Any incidents should be reported to the Board Chair or Association President and will be investigated promptly and confidentially.
  • Consequences: Disciplinary actions may include formal reprimands, suspensions, or termination of membership.

Antitrust and Competitive Practices Policy

As a professional association, BOMA/GLA is committed to free and fair competition. Members must not:

  • Discuss or engage in price-fixing or market allocation.
  • Discourage business dealings with specific competitors or vendors.
  • Restrict advertising or solicitation that complies with industry standards.
  • Engage in activities that could be viewed as anti-competitive.
