Industry Defense Fund
Each year, lawmakers introduce legislation that could significantly impact commercial building operations and profitability. BOMA Greater Los Angeles, in partnership with BOMA California, works tirelessly to safeguard the industry by monitoring policies, engaging with legislators, and leading strategic advocacy efforts.
Through expert lobbying, testimony before legislative committees, grassroots campaigns, and direct education of policymakers, we ensure that the voice of commercial real estate is heard. However, responding to unplanned legislative and regulatory challenges requires resources beyond standard advocacy efforts.
The Industry Defense Fund: Strengthening Our Advocacy
To address critical legislative threats at the local and state levels, BOMA/GLA maintains the Industry Defense Fund (IDF)—a member-driven fund dedicated to supporting urgent advocacy initiatives. The IDF provides the flexibility to respond to legislative proposals, regulatory actions, or legal challenges that could have a profound impact on our members.
Impact of the IDF
The IDF has played a crucial role in protecting the commercial real estate industry, leading to major advocacy successes, including:
Defeating Proposition 15 (2020) – Preventing a Split Roll property tax increase that would have eliminated Proposition 13 protections.
Blocking Measure EE – Stopping a 16-cent per square foot parcel tax increase proposed by LAUSD.
Defeating SB 939 and AB 255 – Preventing legislation that would have jeopardized lease agreements and future rent payments.
Your Support is Essential
While the IDF has achieved significant victories, ongoing support is necessary to continue defending commercial real estate from harmful policies. By contributing to the Industry Defense Fund, you help ensure BOMA/GLA remains a strong advocate for your business, your properties, and the industry as a whole.
